Invisalign

Northern Virginia Cosmetic Dentistry Serving Arlington, Alexandria, and Surrounding Areas

When it comes to straightening your teeth, there are two types of procedures - braces and straighteners.

Braces are appliances attached to your teeth for an extended period of time. While most people think of the traditional metal braces, the truth is dental technology has advanced to the point where braces today are not nearly as noticeable. Braces can be placed behind the teeth, or they can be created out of nearly invisible material such as plastic.

Invisalign is a brand name for a very popular, effective type of straightener. Instead of braces, you'll wear a series of custom-made, clear, plastic mouthpieces. Typically, you'll wear these mouthpieces for about a year. Each one gradually shifts your teeth into the proper direction, and after about a month you'll move on to the next in the series of appliances. Invisalign is comfortable and very hard to see. Although you'll wear them basically all of the time, the appliances are removable, so you'll take them out for brushing and, occasionally, special occasions as need be.
