What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a replacement for a missing root of a tooth that can be restored with and implant crown, a bridge or even a denture.  A small hole is place in the jaw bone that is custom sized to hold a dental implant.  The dental implant is coated with a bone like substance that you bone will actually attach to holding the implant firmly in place., most of the implant is in bone and a small portion of it pokes out of the gum.  This portion is the one that can be restored with a number of pieces that can be used to hold a tooth or clip on a denture.  It is just like getting your own tooth back again.
