What are dental implants?

They are artificial roots, inserted under the gumline, used as an anchor to attach an artificial tooth.

How are the implants inserted?

A small incision is made through your gum and into your jaw. The implant - which is made of titanium - is inserted partway into your jawbone. An artificial tooth, called a pontic, is then attached to the implant.

Why would I have dental implants?

They are used to replace missing teeth. While dentures are removable replacements, dental implants are permanent

Who can have dental implants?

Anyone with a missing tooth and strong jaw structure. If your jawbone has been weakened by age, disease or some other factor, it may not be strong enough to support a dental implant

What types of implants are there?

Screw-form and plate-form implants are the two main types. They both are inserted into your jawbone. Screw-form dental implants are inserted directly into you jaw. Plate-form implants are inserted into your jaw too, but they also contain a flat metal surface used to reinforce the surface area under the gum.

What is the end result?

A replacement tooth which looks and acts very much like a real tooth. The implant is very secure, and in most cases lasts a lifetime.
